DR ETHEL BROOKS

Dr. Ethel Brooks is an Associate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Sociology at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She has been a Tate-TrAIN Transnational Fellow at the University of the Arts London since 2012, where she was also US-UK Fulbright Distinguished Chair from 2011 to 2012.  She is Chair of the Board of the European Roma Rights Centre and also serves as a member of numerous boards and commissions. Brooks is a co-founder of the Kakka Collective and the Performing Romani Identities as Strategy and Critique or PRISaC Network. She edited, wrote and curated the Roma: Europe is Ours (2013), published by Autograph ABP as part of their exhibition Roma-Sinti-Kale-Manush organised by Autograph ABP, London, in 2012. She is also the editor of the 2012 Comparative Symposium on “Romani Feminisms” for Signs and co-editor of the 2007 special issue of WSQ on “Activisms”. She contributed articles to a number of books and journals, and op-eds for the Guardian, the EU Observer and Der Standard.
